Sparrow,
His eyes are on you
Just as they are on me
He will guide you,
Just as he has guided me.
Sparrow,
Do not be afraid
Of life
Of death
Of all things in between
For even when you can’t fly anymore,
Oh sparrow
Know that you will end up in a better place,
A happier place,
A peaceful place.
Recently, I wrote this poem after reading the short story, “The Happy Prince” in my literature class. A sparrow was one of the characters that appeared in the story. Although the poem is not based on the story itself, the idea of writing this stemmed from the sparrow character from the story and the song, “His Eyes Are On The Sparrow.” I want this poem to be short and soothing while emitting a sense of peace.
